Course details
Data isn’t valuable until you put it to good use. Statistics transforms data into meaningful information, enabling organizations to make better decisions and predictions. That’s why statistics—collecting, analyzing, and presenting data—is a valuable skill for anyone in business or academia. In this course, statistics and business analysis instructor Eddie Davila takes you on a nuanced, step-by-step journey to mastering statistics in Excel using the power of Microsoft Copilot. Eddie first teaches the basic principles of statistics with a series of examples, then advances your understanding by extending those same examples into more complex applications of statistical theory—all while using Excel and its statistics tools and functions, and leveraging Copilot to optimize your workflow.
Learning objectives
Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing Excel's built-in functions and tools, such as the RAND function and Descriptive Statistics tool, to generate and analyze datasets, including measures of central tendency, variability, and data visualization techniques like frequency tables and histograms.
Apply fundamental probability concepts, including permutations, combinations, addition and multiplication rules, conditional probability, and probability trees, within the Excel environment, leveraging Copilot for assistance and guidance.
Analyze both discrete and continuous probability distributions, such as the binomial distribution and normal distribution, within Excel, including calculating probabilities, z-scores, and creating normal curves.
Perform statistical inference techniques in Excel, such as constructing confidence intervals, conducting hypothesis tests for means and proportions, comparing two populations, and implementing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for analyzing differences among group means.
Utilize Excel for regression analysis, including linear regression, and understand the application of simulations, such as Monte Carlo simulations, for modeling and analyzing real-world scenarios, with the assistance of Copilot throughout the process.
